Our Leadership

James H. Elkus, CFA® | Managing Partner

James has been developing, investing in, and raising capital for various alternative asset classes for more than two decades. While his experience includes venture capital, private equity, private debt, and hedge funds, the majority of his career has been focused on real estate value creation of the following asset types: large-scale mixed-use, specialty retail, outlet retail, multifamily, condo conversion, hotel, office & lab, and land.

For six years up to 2013, James lived in Dallas and served as a consultant to developers, land owners, real estate opportunity and income funds, as well as a dedicated hotel fund. Prior to moving to Dallas, James was a development executive and ran the Boston area development activities for Capital Properties, specifically on new multifamily developments, as well as the conversion of use, repositioning, and disposition of existing commercial assets.

During and following business school, he gained venture capital raising and senior level management experience as Senior Director of Finance & Operations with Avero Inc., a hospitality focused, venture-backed, start-up technology company.

James began his real estate career with The Related Companies in NYC as the Assistant Project Manager on one of the most high profile large-scale mixed-use projects in the nation, CityPlace in West Palm Beach, FL, and later, to a more limited extent, the Time Warner Center in NYC. Following college, he was with Barclays Bank PLC in investment banking.

James holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School and received a BA in Political Science from Colgate University. He is a CFA charterholder and holds FINRA Series 50, 63, and 79 licenses. James serves as an alumni admissions representative of Phillips Academy (Andover) as well as Columbia Business School. He is a lifelong skier, fly fisherman, and golfer.
